The inaugural Transplant Oncology Conference took place on a virtual platform on October 1st, 2022.
The conference was organized by Transplant Oncology Workgroup, a group of nephrologists from major cancer centers in the United States (Dana Farber Cancer Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Mayo Clinic, and Fred Hutch Cancer Center). Speakers discussed up-to-date data on immune checkpoint blockade use in transplant recipients (kidney and liver transplant), and novel cellular therapy in transplant recipients. In the patient roundtable discussion, we invited two transplant recipients to discuss unmet needs in post-transplant care and cancer diagnosis and therapy. Education on cancer risk post-transplant, information sharing, and patient-empowered decision making were identified as key areas of improvement. The conference concluded with great success, and plans to continue annually to discuss the challenging areas of cancer post-transplant.
